Destination: Milwaukee

We all dream.  Nick dreamt of taking the Lake Express ferry from Muskegon to Mikwaukee across Lake Michigan.  Some dreams come true.

The ferry was kind of like the Nantucket Ferry but upon exit you are in Milwaukee not Nantucket harbor.  Serious let down.

I grew up about an hour and a half from Milwaukee, but literally had never been there.  Kind of shameful, so I happily took part in Nick's Lake Express fantasy.  Particularly since my friend Missy and her husband Jeff just bought a cute little colonial outside of Milwaukee.  We took the opportunity to check out their new digs and attend Milwaukee Brewfest.  Katherine and Paul joined us from Chicago as most Midwest adventures seem to include the "superfans".  Attending a beer fest at 32 weeks pregnant in 90 degree heat might strike you as an odd choice.  It definitely was, but the company was great and my designated driver ticket included a free ginormous brat.  When in Rome. . .

The brat also saved me from having to partake in pretzel and slim jim necklaces. These boys weren't so lucky/they are loving the excuse to eat slim Jim's off a string around their neck in public.

Thanks to Missy and Jeff for their gracious hospitality.  We had an awesome time.  Milwaukee is a very cool city.  I suggest not waiting 33 years to check it out.  Particularly if you live within ferrying distance.
