Memorial Day

According to my Instagram and Facebook news feed you were all enjoying BBQs, bike rides and exotic travel this holiday weekend.

Meanwhile the Lardo family spent the weekend moving.  Finally.  To an under construction house.  Fun times.

Well this kid has fun times everywhere he goes.  Lately I wish I could borrow his attitude.

We did make a little time for the Grand Haven Memorial Day parade.  Fly over anyone?  Everyone loves a fly over, no attitude adjustment necessary.

Many thanks to our family and friends who have and are serving in the military. We are grateful for your service.

Pier Peddler

On a warm evening you can find our family strolling the Grand Haven pier.

We love to wave to random strangers and ring the Coast Guard bell.

Sometimes we stop to admire a freighter picking up sand from the quarry.

Other times we just admire the sunset and think about how lucky we are to call this place home 365 days a year.

We also try to forget about winter. In general.

Setting Sail

Horacio, Jane and a hot young Argentine first mate enjoy the scenery in Mar Del Plato, Argentina. January 2013.

I wanted to go for a sail and my super accommodating, always up for an adventure, generous father in law chartered a sailboat for us to enjoy.

Thanks for sending this picture Horacio. What a fun day and a great memory.

Lola Love

Two good friends lost their beloved pets this week. It was a reminder of how much this little one means to our family. She may not be the only child anymore, but in many ways she'll always be our first born.

No one loves her more than Fisher. His obsession with dogs is almost concerning. Seriously obsessed, like wakes up in middle of night calling Lola obsessed.

He also loves to take her on "walks"

Nick Lardo Autobio Poem

From the Nick Lardo archives.

Autobio-Poem
February 6, 1993 (age 13)

Nick-
Conscientious, sympathetic, athletic and emotional,
Brother of Alison, Melissa and Erica
Lover of fierce soccer competition, free relaxed summers, and the feeling of receiving an "A",
Who feels amazed by nature, uncomfortable during conversations with company and absorbed by deep meaningful music,
Who needs his loving family, supportive friends and an imaginative mind,
Who gives effort, respect and reassurance,
Who fears humiliation, rejection and radioactive waste,
Who would like to see a cure for AIDS, the past and future, and a stricter school curriculum,
Who lives in a nice Tudor house on Hunter's Bluff,
-Lardo

Maybe we don't change that much from our thirteen year old selves after all? Now I can toss this yellowed paper out without guilt, knowing Nick's fear or radioactive waste and a soft school curriculum has been exposed to the world.
