The wedding wasn't exactly last minute, but in this age of super charged two year in advance save the date weddings, three months notice was unexpected and frankly kind of refreshing. It set the tone for this non- traditional wedding weekend where an emphasis was placed on intimacy and good old fashioned fun (food and booze).
Fisher and I rode my parents coat tails, while Nick stayed home in Michigan with Gracie. Remember how bad she was on the flight home from Florida? Yeah so do I, hence her quarantine to driving distance vacations. I think Nick was happy to have one on one time with her and everyone is still alive and speaking, so things clearly went well.
Plus an hour drive, three hour flight, followed by two hours in the airport waiting for Papa and WeWe and a 3.5 hr traffic/construction filled drive into the mountains would have been way too much for her for a long weekend. And by too much for her, I really mean too much for me. Have I mentioned every time we are sitting still at a red light or in slow moving traffic she screams at me, "GOOOO". Yeah it's not annoying at all. This big kid? I didn't even know he was there. I read an entire book on the plane. Have I mentioned I love big kids?
Papa hooked us up with an awesome, nicer than and bigger than my house condo at the Arrabelle in Lionshead right in the middle of all the wedding action and next to Starbucks. Equally important. Fisher enjoyed this really small bedroom with dual sink bathroom, jetted soaking tub, and steam shower all to himself. Papa and Wewe have taken us on many fun adventures across the country and Fisher thinks all the rented homes/condos we stay in are "Papa and WeWes". So don't accept if he invites you to their house in Florida, by the lobsters or in Vail. They only exist on VRBO.
The highlight of Vail is always catching up with this guy, "uncle Juan".
However a close second was how much fun Fisher and cousin Dylan had with each other. Fisher immediately decided Dylan was his favorite friend and went to bed praying for him and woke up asking about him. While at first overwhelmed by Fisher's strong enthusiasm for him, Dylan quickly warmed to Fisher's extreme attention. Fisher even presented cousin Dylan with his first ever toy (Lego Duplos) from Walmart. He is all fancy out there in Seattle. Below Seattle hippy cousin teaches redneck walmart shopping cousin downward dog. Dylan knows a lot of yoga poses and Mandarin Chinese. Not even joking.
Thankfully there are universal truths all kids understand like ice cream, a game of chase, and holding uncles hand. I mean how cute is Dylan. He is a year younger than Fisher.
Saturday while Juan worked we took the gondola up to the top of the mountain for the views, ropes course and trampoline. We also managed a short hike.
Wedding night we arranged for an awesome found online babysitter to watch the kids while the adults enjoyed a night at my moms favorite restaurant and the reception at an upscale bowling venue. Bowling was a blast even though I discovered earlier this year I am beyond terrible at bowling. Our group before heading out for the night.
You know it's a good night when Wewe takes "shots".
The original Fisher five.
With one of my all time favorite people and honorary cousin Emily Peck at the reception.
My mom and her brother Jake, before Jake smoked us on the lanes. Apparently he is in a "league".
Alison and I posing with aunt Holly.
Three musketeers, Cam, Juan and Emily
Party animal, cousin Marcus
And a totally stolen photo of the bride and groom from Facebook. I know you aren't supposed to do that, but you can't have a complete here comes the bride blog post without proper bride and groom photo.
Vail you never disappoint! Until next time. Which will probably be next year.
